While growing up, an ideal kitchen to me was a small place at the backyard of every house where you have stones for pots to sit, filled with ashes and charcoal.

In a traditional African setting a kitchen is a place where food gets done and children are not allowed to play around in there.  

Subsequently, I learnt that you can actually have a kitchen in the main house where you have just a or sink to wash in, kerosene or gas stove and a small plastic basket where the plates, spoons and pot are kept. There was no room for kids in the kitchen.

Fortunately for me, learning about kitchen design and decorations, I found out that kitchen should  be a lot more interesting than I grew up with. With contemporary designs, you can actually make your kitchen in such a way that you can gather with everyone in the houuse casually or children writing their assignments while u cook  and have fun while cooking. It’s possible to have a child-friendly kitchen.

A modern kitchen is lavish and beautiful but a designer must put into consideration, that which it is important for the kitchen to be practical and functional. Kitchen is the most important room for the person who cooks or serves food. Food would be delicious if cook well. It is encouraged to break the traditional design of kitchens and create a more interesting environment. If you intend to renew or design your kitchen with latest kitchen fittings. ·       Your budget: A kitchen remodel can be as simple as painting walls and replace a valve, or it may involve such tougher races that remove the wall and install a new one. Set reasonable resource and ensure that the Fund includes the element that should be added to the kitchen.

Locate the refrigerator where it can be easily accessible it would be wise to locate it near the delivery door, or the door near a living-dining area. In this way it can be easily and quickly reached by you.

·       Preparation and cleaning is another important activity to be considered in the stage of space planning in the kitchen. The sink should be adjoined to the counter space for easy flow of work. Some would like a sink located near a window with a garden or lawn area in view.

·       There should be proper circulation so not to disrupt the flow of work in a kitchen. Working areas should be planned to achieve continuity in the activities.

·       Space planning in a kitchen is very important. In designing a kitchen, the designer should plan for telephone, automatic dishwasher (even tv) and any other modern devices that may be needed. The kitchen owner should make sure that the dimensions especially the height of the furniture or appliances is reachable by them.  For instance, Counters, should have a comfortable height that it would not give strain to the family members

·       Finally, Laundry activities are advised to be separate from the kitchen to have a more safe and functional kitchen. Laundry appliances and devices should not be included in the kitchen like automatic washer, dryer, and iron. These items should be separated and placed into a separate room like the utility room. If ever there’s no choice in having the laundry with the kitchen, separate an area for these activities from the kitchen.
